Parappukkara is one of the first panchayats formed in the Cochin state. It is said that Parapokumkara became Parapukkara. At that time, Parapukkara Panchayat consisted of five villages: Thottipal, Parapukkara, Nellai, Thoravu and Chengaloor. Although this area was part of the Cochin Kingdom, it remained under the rule of the king until independence. The formation of the Parappukkara Panchayat itself was the result of the efforts of poet Thilakan Changaramkotha Krishnan, one of the court poets of the Maharaja of Cochin. Poet Thilakan Changaramkotha Krishnan was the first president of this panchayat, which was formed in 1914. The Panchayat Office, Anchal Office, Village Office, Village Court and Ayurvedic Hospital were functioning in Parappukkara. The Aratt ceremony, which is held in connection with the famous Irinjalakuda Koodalmanikyam temple festival, is held in the Rapal Arattukadavu of this Panchayat in alternate years.
